As I opened the door of Da Crab Trap on 3401 Altamesa Blvd, #166 Fort Worth, TX 76133, the owners’ son greeted my daughter and me at the register. When I told him we were dining in, he guided us to our table. After we were seated, he gave us menus. Next, he made suggestions and described the tasty cuisine. After ordering, Terrance Shields walked over and welcomed us. Immediately, I felt his southern hospitality. Conversing with him was like talking to family.
Initially, I did not realize that they were not from Texas. Terrance and Daisey vacationed in this area and fell in love with DFW about nine years ago. The Shields knew they had to move here permanently because it seemed like home. After a few years, they left everything in Georgia and transitioned to Fort Worth, Texas. This change was extremely difficult. They lost some family members along the way. Also, establishing the business presented some challenges. They didn’t qualify for any loans, and the pandemic created a new hardship. However, “Only God got us this far,” said Daisy. The Shields family worked hard, and God directed their steps.
I asked Mr. Shields, “How do you prepare each day?”
He replied, “I get up around 5 each morning to spend time with God before leaving for the day.”
Terrance also mentioned that God gave him a business plan by simply giving him the scripture,
Genesis 1:28 KJV “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
He said most people think that scripture is only about children, but it’s about business as well. Both owners shared they get their business mindset from God. Terrance’s first love is BBQ. However, the Shields knew they could be more successful with their Georgian seafood because Texas offers Louisiana-style seafood, not Georgian seafood, so following God’s guidance, they introduced these bold, new flavors to this area.
Welcome, this unique taste to Funky Town from two legacies and three generations of Georgian Coastal cooks. This food is totally unlike any seafood I’ve ever eaten. The shrimp and grilled salmon disappeared quickly while I sopped the corn on the cob and fork full of rice with Da Crab Trap seasoned butter. The seafood mac and cheese wasn’t like anything I’ve tasted before. As we finished, I looked forward to what I was going to eat when I returned with my entire family. Da Crab Trap is the perfect name because the food is like a drug. I’m hooked!!
You must try Da Crab Trap. The food will not disappoint. Try the shrimp, salmon, seafood boil, seafood mac and cheese, pineapple bowls, and, of course, da crab. This taste of Coastal Georgia will leave a desire for more. You will love it! Da Crab Trap welcomes pickup orders, delivery, and dine-in customers.
